Government Shutdown Chaos

Government Shutdown Chaos
November 11, 2025
John Thune the Senate GOP leader, Trump, the Democrats, and a South Dakota man react to the government shutdown in this animated satire.
The government shutdown effectively ended on Nov. 10 when the 8 Democrats from the Senate agreed. This video was being made right before that, and it's direction completely changed midstream.

This video idea was started while the government was still shut down. I saw a clip of GOP leader John Thune saying how it was only a tiny fraction of people were on Obamacare. What if he were right there confronted with his own voter who would stand to lose a lot if the subsidies went away.

John Thune is confronted by his own voter with a MAGA hat.

Then of course Trump tells him to never make a deal with the Democrats, and we go back and forth.

What I didn’t expect to happen – in the midst of making this video – was that the group of 8 Democrats would cave to Trump and the Republicans and agree to end the shutdown.

So the last part of the video changed altogether when this event happened.  I cobbled together a picture of the 8 Democrats, made sure their names were bright and clear, and made sort of a unison voice by mixing together multiple voices.

I tried to capture the response of the entire movement when the news of the Democrats caving was out. A number of experiments with AI audio generation produced the WTF sound for this panel.

The video ends with MAGA South Dakota guy questioning his MAGA hat.

We can only hope that more people wearing MAGA hats will start to question their loyalty.
